Charu Khandal was critically injured after a car rammed into her autorickshaw in Mumbai

Shahrukh Khan Wednesday paid a visit to RA.One animator Charu Khandal at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she is battling for life after an accident. Actor-producer Shahrukh who was busy shooting in London for Yash Raj Films' next untitled film, landed in Mumbai on Tuesday. He had said at the airport about Charu, "It's very unfortunate. I have been in touch with the office. I will go and take a look at her. I will pray that Allah makes her all right soon." The actor visited Charu at the hospital and also met her family members. He spent around 35 to 40 minutes in the hospital, but didn't speak to the press waiting outside.

Charu met with an accident March 25. A speeding car, with an allegedly drunk driver at the wheel, rammed into the autorickshaw in which she was travelling with her sister and a friend. The 26-year-old suffered multiple fractures and injuries to her spinal cord in the accident early Sunday and went into a coma.

After days of her accident, superstar Shah Rukh Khan told NDTV, "It is very unfortunate and I will go and see her. I wish she gets well soon."

Inconsolable, Charu's father doubts she will recover. "I am not sure whether my daughter will survive. All I want to say is that I am not happy that the driver has been given bail," he told NDTV.

"I am sure about the driver that he was drunk," said eyewitness Abhishek Deyy.

Concurs Charu's sister, "After this decision anybody can drink and drive and then pay Rs 5000 to get out of the situation," she told NDTV.

"Charu's condition is very critical...she has broken her survical bone. The doctors are waiting for a couple of days to let her be stable, to be able to operate her. She's a strong girl. And we're hopeful," says Charu's fiance Sagar Thakkar, who looked visibly upset.

Molly Singh, Charu's friend is sure her friend will survive. "She's very strong, after her accident she called her fiance and told him about the whole incident. I am very impressed by the way she is going about it. She told me that we will party very soon. I am sure she'll rock," she said.

Espa Lepcha, another friend of Charu feels something is wrong with the way things are moving, "I will definitely go to the police. Today when we went to the station, they said blood report is not with them. Somewhere or the other some big fish is playing all the game," she said.

The mishap took place in the early hours of Sunday around 1 am, when the 28-year-old victim was returning home in the auto with her sister Ritu and friend Vikrant Goyal.

Manoj Gautam, who was behind the wheels of the car was arrested on Sunday for rash and negligent driving. He was subsequently granted bail, police added.

The Baadshah of Bollywood speaks his mind without saying a word on the latest cover of a society magazine. We wonder what is troubling the most successful man of B-town…

Gracing the cover of OK! magazine, Shahrukh Khan's square-in-the-eye gaze certainly sets the otherwise cool frame on fire. The thoughtful Khan adopts an unconventional pose for a man. But then SRK is different, isn't he? He can turn the conventional rules on their heads, even for a picture! Everything about this cover is just perfect. Surprisingly, not a strand out of place for the actor who almost always likes to keep it messy, scruffy and real. Though this cover shot looks sun-drenched and has certain warmth about it, SRK looks like he is in a pensive mood. "I get shocked at what is written about me," roars the strap- line. Looks like Shahrukh is getting a bit defensive here. We would like to guess that SRK is talking about his alleged link up with Priyanka Chopra or his infamous punch-gate episode, or maybe both.

Dressed in a light mauve full-sleeved T-shirt with a collared amber tee beneath, SRK keeps the colour-coding linear by wearing stone-washed jeans. A black chronograph on his wrist completes the look. We loved the ambience SRK is nestled in. It gives a homely feeling with those cushions placed in the background, a nearly perfect setting for a heart-to-heart talk. But what stands out the most is the fine blend of brightness (which SRK is unmistakably known for) and the understated somberness that is created by using SRK's reflective eyes.Pretty impressive!

Shah Rukh, it seems, knows how to remain the undisputed king of hearts.

It's confirmed now: Shah Rukh's Khan's forthcoming film, directed by Yash Chopra, is not titled London Ishq. It was a rumour that appeared out of nowhere a while ago leading many to believe this piece of news. A source says, "It is surprising to see such news spread especially when the media has been duly presented with a lot of information about the film. In fact, there are even stills of Shah Rukh and Katrina Kaif that have been released to the media, which is very uncharacteristic of the Yash Raj banner, that's known to be a stickler for privacy, especially during the making of a film." The production house is not very pleased with such rumours, even though it gave the film its fair share of publicity. So YRF has been prompt in issuing a formal statement by Rafiq Gangjee, vice president, saying, "No, London Ishq is not the title of the film." So keep guessing!

Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif's upcoming Yash Chopra film will reportedly be titled London Ishq.

The project - which is currently shooting in the UK - had earlier been known by the working title 'Project 45'.

The Hindi-English title had been chosen from two potential other names, one of which is said to have been Hum London Mein Mile, claims BollySpice.

Since the reported official title released on Thursday, a London Ishq Twitter handle has appeared on the microblogging site, alongside at least seven Facebook pages dedicated to the production.

Commentators across social media platforms have given a mixed response to news of the title.

Preity Zinta is currently working on her comeback project Ishq In Paris. Karisma Kapoor is also making a return to the film industry with the similarly titled Dangerous Ishq.

YRF has released a number of official images of Khan and Kaif filming in London over the past week. A fan version of a London Ishq film poster has also started to circulate online.

London Ishq is scheduled to release Diwali 2012.

When Bollywood kingpin Shah Rukh Khan launched his production company in the U.S. earlier this week, there was no swanky soirée or engineered publicity stunt to usher in the venture. "I want to start the company off with a bang," said Shailja Gupta, head of Red Chillies USA. "But I'd like the work to speak for itself."

Charged with expanding the company's digital presence while also securing partnerships with American production houses, Ms. Gupta, 38, is a refreshing combination of pragmatism and drive—an exception in an industry notorious for over-the-top, off-screen histrionics (as actor Saif Ali Khan recently demonstrated in a very public altercation with a South African businessman.)

Launched in 2002, Red Chillies Entertainment, the parent company of Red Chillies USA, began as a Bombay-based production house co-founded by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri. In addition to backing a roster of blockbusters like "My Name is Khan" and "Om Shanti Om," the company has branched out to include other divisions, including an in-house visual effects studio.

With other major Indian players like Reliance Big Pictures and Dharma Productions are also testing out Hollywood waters, it seems that Bollywood is slowly setting its eyes on international production values – and the American box office.

Red Chillies is not just about promoting the idea of Bollwood in the the U.S. By claiming a presence overseas, the production house hopes to improve the quality of its own film production, whether it means shopping for scripts to co-produce or partnering with cutting-edge technicians, says Ms. Gupta.

Mr. Khan's popularity among non-resident Indians is likely to help the company take off in the U.S. "Shah Rukh often jokes that he's an NRI actor, so having his brand recognized worldwide has never been an issue," says Ms. Gupta. Mr. Khan's NRI appeal can be attributed to memorable performances in blockbusters like "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge," "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham."

"SRK's characters in these films were always very urbane, sophisticated and cosmopolitan – he really was the first yuppie hero of Hindi cinema," said Tejaswini Ganti, anthropologist and author of the recently published, "Producing Bollywood: Inside the Contemporary Hindi Film Industry."

"In those particular films, it appears as if you can take the man out of India, but you can't take India out of the man," said Ms. Ganti.

In a cinematic landscape that is becoming increasingly multi-faceted, Mr. Khan's films also tend to strike a careful balance between tradition and modernity that many, particularly outside of India, often crave.

"The diaspora is nostalgic for the India that Shah Rukh's characters often represent," explained Tula Goenka, professor of television, radio and film at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. "The movies that he's in are the wholesome, mainstream films that people all over the world associate with Bollywood.

Mr. Khan's most recent production, the sci-fi thriller, "Ra.One", didn't meet the commercial success it expected, but set new benchmarks for visual effects in Indian cinema. "It was the first time that the visual effects of a Bollywood film were spearheaded entirely from India," Ms. Gupta said.

Ms. Gupta drew attention to Bollywood's growing need to join forces with its American counterpart for survival's sake. "Hollywood's reach is everywhere; they've gobbled up a lot of industries across the world—India and its urban audiences are next," she warned. "We're hoping when we tie up with Western filmmakers, they'll introduce a certain way of writing that we can learn from because Bollywood really needs to buck up on its scripts," she said. She declined to share what specific Indo-U.S. co-productions are currently being discussed under the Red Chillies banner.

"At this point, Indian cinema is undergoing a transition and it's very, very important to be open to learning from everyone else," said Ms. Gupta.

Ms. Gupta stated that it's not a one-way street when it comes to cinematic exchange: "India has definitely gotten more exposed, especially after the success of 'Slumdog Millionaire.'"  Examples include Fox Searchlight's upcoming "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," a lively film that follows an eclectic crew of British retirees, determined to spend their autumn years in Jaipur, and "Trishna," a modern-day adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the d'Ubervilles" and set between rural Rajastan and Mumbai.

Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow is currently shooting "Zero Dark Thirty," a movie based on the U.S.'s military strike against Osama bin Laden shot predominantly in Chandigarh. (However, as Ms. Bigelow now knows, there are risks to filming in India, too.)

It's clear that Hollywood is also looking towards the Subcontinent for inspiration, albeit of a different kind.

Every now and then Shah Rukh Khan will remind us of why he still wears the crown of the King.

At a time when his tumultuous relationship with close friends has been the topic of much debate and public scrutiny, SRK has been quietly taking care of people who really matter to him. One of them happens to be director Anubhav Sinha, who helped him realise one of his long-cherished dreams, RA.One.

The film's fortunes have not in the least bit affected their friendship, which has survived the vagaries of the box office.

Mumbai Mirror has learnt that it was during a recent trip to London that Sinha was pleasantly surprised when SRK dropped in to visit him at Courthouse Hotel in central London.

A source close to the director told Mirror that SRK and Sinha chatted for nearly two hours, before the star left.

However, there was a bigger surprise for Sinha, who prepared to check out of the hotel on Monday at 5 am. Apparently, SRK had cleared his bill amounting to Rs 1.95 lakh. Apparently, SRK, on his way out, had quietly enquired with the hotel management about Sinha's expenses, and over an email that night, settled the dues.

A surprised Sinha checked with the reception several times to ensure there were no mistake. And every time he was given the same answer: SRK had paid for his three-day hotel stay. It then occurred to Sinha that in the course of the conversation he had mentioned that he would be checking out the next day. And maybe that is when the actor decided to gift his friend a little surprise.

"Anubhav called up SRK thanking him for his magnanimous gesture. He was visibly overwhelmed," added the source.

Shah Rukh Khan is reported to have protected Katrina Kaif from a stampede on the set of their new Yash Chopra project.

Khan was seen to place a protective arm around Kaif on the crowded set, to prevent the actress from getting trampled.

"The set had close to 300 actors, dancers and artists in for the first day of our new song. When the call for lunch came, there was a sudden rush to get to the canteen, and SRK had to shield Kat from the stampede," said a production source.

The Ra.One star reportedly shared a takeaway lunch on the UK set of their new film on Tuesday.

"Kat was feeling hungry during the shoot of a song-and-dance sequence in central London, so ordered in a takeaway burger. Seeing Kat tucking into the snack, SRK grabbed a bite from the burger, and the two finished it off between them," the production source added.

Khan recently praised 'Production 45' co-stars Kaif and Anushka Sharma, responding to a fan's question about which female Hindi stars he enjoys working with.

Khan posted: "All my co-actresses have been wonderful...so r Katrina and Anushka for this film... hardworking... honest and humble (sic)."

The YRF project is scheduled to release Diwali 2012.

But if you're filled with a sense of deja vu after checking out the first-look of this yet untitled film (pictured above), you are not alone. Bearing an uncanny resemblance to Khan's iconic romance flick Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (The Bravehearted Will Take Home The Bride) where he wooed Kajol with a mandolin, it's now scorcher Katrina Kaif's turn.
