Even as Bollywood's Badshah Shah Rukh Khan cut the many birthday cakes that the media brought for him on his 48th birthday, the superstar maintains that he is not used to celebrating his birthday from early childhood days.
The scene outside his Mumbai bungalow Mannat at Bandstand is chaotic. There is a huge crowd of eager fans who have thronged the place just to get one glimpse of the Chennai Express star. There are banners proclaiming, 'Happy Birthday Shah Rukh. We love you King Khan.' There are others who burst fire crackers to show their love and another bunch is beating drums in celebration of their matinee idol's birthday. And of course there are traffic jams outside on the road, much to the consternation of the SRK's neighbours. The cops even indulge in mild lathi charge.
Inside the bungalow, addressing the media SRK says, "I can't thank God enough for the love people outside show towards me. May God bless them all and give them all the happiness that he has blessed me with."
The first people to wish SRK on his birthday were his two kids - son Aryan and daughter Suhana. The star said, "They were all busy with their lives partying somewhere but called me at 12 and wished me happy birthday."
Khan added that on his birthday he receives letters and gifts from all over, from places like Peru, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore among others. "I receive gifts throughout the year from so many people all over the world who love me. I am not able to open every gift personally otherwise but on my birthday I make sure that I open every gift myself. I read every letter sent to me on the occasion except the ones that are written in German or Spanish. But I know what the ones written in Spanish and German are saying -- that they love me."
SRK also said that he wanted to thank God for all the small mercies in life. He pointed out, "In life we are often so busy with bigger things that we miss out on the joys of smaller things. I want to dedicate this birthday of mine to small, little things that make us happy in life."
