Fewer cops to guard SRK

King Khan is less 'secured' these days, and we mean it literally. The Bandra police, in whose jurisdiction Shah Rukh's bungalow Mannat falls, has cut down on his security, citing shortage of staff.

Shah Rukh's security was enhanced following reports of gangster Bunty Pandey's extortion threat in December 2007.

Though the police at that time refused to confirm the reports, they immediately deployed additional policemen at Khan's house.

Reports say, Pandey had called up  Shah Rukh to demand ransom, after his film Om Shanti Om was declared a blockbuster in 2007. Advertisements even proclaimed that OSO was the biggest grosser in the history of Hindi cinema, but the earnings were not mentioned. The actor reportedly refused to take the calls.

Pandey then sent his henchmen to Mannat, to threaten him with dire consequences if he did not cough up the money. Shah Rukh immediately informed the police about the threat.

"Prescribed security will always be there. If there is any reduction it must be because of the staff required for the up coming festivals," Deputy Commissioner of police, Niket Kaushik said.

SRK's Present Security
Shah Rukh is now left with security cover from the Local Arms Unit (LAU) of the Mumbai police, who are deployed for VIPs and VVIPs, his personal security guards and what is left of the Bandra police security personnel.
